On August 21, 2001 David Byrne came to Square Books
to read from his book
The New Sins.
After passing out over 200 magic markers, Byrne opened the
show
by asking the audience to draw a picture of a person.
Tom Franklin, this year's visiting writer-in-residence, and
his wife,
the poet Beth Ann Fennelly, read a short story.
Mark Winegardner read a segment of
his novel,
Crooked River Burning.
