Blue Moon Over Oxford
A
community of new writers has emerged down here in the
Deep South. They convene at conferences
and make surprise appearances at each other's readings.
Among the gathering places is the annual conference/party
Southern Writers Reading in Fairhope, Alabama, organized
by Sonny Brewer, owner of
the local Over the Transom Bookstore. The festival's
good-time reputation produces no small amount of lore
and good readings, and at the advice of the participants
and attendees, Brewer has compiled this anthology of
readings from the event, STORIES
FROM THE BLUE MOON CAFE (MacAdam/Cage, hd. 25.00).
Included here are poems, stories, articles and excerpts
from the likes of Rick Bragg, Jill
Conner Browne, Pat Conroy, Beth Ann Fennelly, Patricia
Foster, Tom Franklin, William Gay, Winston Groom, Melinda
Haynes, Silas House, Michael Knight, George Singleton,
Brad Watson, Steve Yarbrough and many more, writers
both well-known and rising. Sonny and Co. are riding
up to Oxford on Sunday, August 18, for a series of readings
and signings with many of the writers featured in this
collection, so watch for the Blue Moon Bus and call
to reserve your copy signed by as many authors as can
squeeze their names on the title page. |
