Clark Blaise, a native of North
Dakota but a resident, at various times of the U.S., Canada,
and India, is the acclaimed author of novels (Lunar Attractions,
Lusts), story collections (Resident Alien, Tribal
Justice) and many works of non-fiction. His most recent
book is Time Lord: Sir Sanford Fleming
and the Creation of Standard Time (Vintage, pb. 13.00),
an intriguing historical biography of the man who convinced
the world to accept standard time in the late 1800s. A former
head of the International Writing Program at the University
of Iowa, Blaise currently lives in San Francisco with his
wife, Bharati Mukherjee.
