Cary Holladay will come to Square Books to read from her novel Mercury. She's the author of two previous books of short stories: The Palace of Wasted Footsteps and The People Down South.

The novel tells the story of a group of young friends who discover a vat of mercury in an abandoned factory. Not knowing the danger they plunged their arms down in the silvery liquid. One friend dies of the poisoning. The other, a girl named Katelynn endures a lengthy recovery, during which she witnesses the sinking of a tourist boat on the lake outside her window.

Holladay, a Memphis resident, will sign books at 5 p.m. and read at 5:30. If you're unable to attend but would like an autographed or inscribed copy please contact us in advance.
