John Armistead has made a name for himself writing compelling
fiction for young readers. His books like The $66 Summer
and Cruel as the Grave mix elements of mystery
with historical and social issues. His newest novel The
Return of Gabriel is set in a small Mississippi town during
the height of the civli rights movement. The main character,
a young man named Cooper, is forced to confront the situation
head-on. His father is a staunch segregationist and his
two best friends are Black and Jewish.
This is a meaningful book for adults of all ages.
There will be a reception at 5 p.m., reading at 5:30.
