Alabama
native Mary Ward Brown will
come to Square Books on January 31st to read from her newest
collection of short stories entitled, It
Wasn't All Dancing.
Set mostly in Alabama, these eleven stories'
characters make their way through the the changing South,
confronting the modernity of the New South while clinging
to the vestiges of the Old.
Mary
Ward Brown's first collection of stories, Tongues of
Flame, won the 1987 PEN/Hemingway Award, the 1991 Lillian
Smith Award, and the 1987 Alabama Library Association Award.
There will be a reception with refreshments
beginning at 5 p.m. Reading at 5:30 p.m.
