by Shannon Hale |
The
Goose Girl by celebrated author Shannon Hale features
Ani as the crown princess of Kildenree. In her very early
years, her mysterious aunt teaches Ani how to speak to birds.
But her mother the queen coldly disapproves of her eldest
daughter's unusual gift. Then, at the age of sixteen, tragedy
strikes, and to Ani's dismay, her title as the crown princess
of Kildrenree is taken away, and she is sent to Bayern to
marry their prince. But on the way there, Ani is betrayed
by one closest to her and she is robbed of even her lesser
royal title and position. Now forced to fend for herself
in the strange land of Bayern, she discovers strengths she
didn't know she had. A beautifully and oftentimes poetically
told coming-of-age story, The Goose Girl establishes
itself as one of the classics of children's modern fairy
tales.

Barron's The Great Tree of Avalon:The Child of the
Dark Prophecy is really cool. It follows the story
of Tamwyn, a wilderness guide who meets up with two Drumad
priestesses, on his search for his brother, Scree. They
search for the Lady of the Lake, for the stars in the constellation
Merlin's Staff dissapearing, which signifies the year when
the Child of the Dark Prophecy will attempt to thrust Avalon
into darkness. So until next time tell all people how great
I am.

GREEN
ANGEL, by Alice Hoffman, is a depressing, yet riviting,
tale of a young, quite girl who lives on the outskirts
of a big city. One day her family goes to the city to
sell their crops, and leaves her behind to care for the
garden. All of a sudden flames erupt from the city and
it burns to the ground. Green, the girl, is forced to
fend for herself in a world gone mad, where no one can
trust anyone and she has to toughen up. But to what extent?
