This is book number 1 in the Rachel Friedman series.

Introducing a charming chapter book series starring Rachel Friedman, a sweet and silly Jewish girl renowned for her peanut butter challah baking skills and larger-than-life personality!

Rachel loves being Jewish, but she hates following the rules at synagogue—and everywhere else. To encourage her to see the value of rules, Rachel and her father strike a deal: If Rachel can stick to the rules for one whole week, she can go to a meet and greet for her favorite gymnast!

But when Rachel finds herself in a tricky situation that forces her to choose between following the rules or doing what she believes is right, she learns that some rules are worth breaking. And yet, when the consequences of her rule breaking spin out of control, she learns that some rules are still worth following.

Sarah Kapit creates a refreshing chapter book heroine in Rachel Friedman, featuring her Jewish identity, ADHD, and personality with care. The book also features Genevieve Kote's adorable illustrations throughout.

Sarah Kapit lives in Seattle with her husband and their goofy orange cat, and is the author of Get A Grip, Vivy Cohen! and The Many Mysteries of the Finkel Family. She earned a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and she’s always happy to talk about the history of women, medicine, and any other history geek topic. She has a longstanding involvement in the disability rights and neurodiversity movements, and serves as chairperson of the Association for Autistic Community.

Genevieve Kote is a French Canadian illustrator and comic book artist based in Montreal. She loves drawing characters and animals and bringing their adventures to life. Kote's work includes the Animal Rescue Friends series, the Agents of H.E.A.R.T. series and Hike on Haunted Hill. In her free time she can be found reading novels, baking or exploring the city and other parts of the world. She shares her studio with her cat Clara and many plants.
