Jewell Parker Rhodes signs NINTH WARD

Jewell Parker Rhodes signs Ninth Ward.

Twelve-year-old Lanesha lives in a tight-knit community in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward. She doesn’t have a fancy house like her uptown family or lots of friends like the other kids on her street. But what she does have is Mama Ya-Ya, her fiercely loving caretaker, wise in the ways of the world and able to predict the future. So when Mama Ya-Ya’s visions show a powerful hurricane—Katrina—fast approaching, it’s up to Lanesha to call upon the hope and strength Mama Ya-Ya has given her to help them both survive the storm.

Melissa Francis signs LOVE SUCKS

Melissa Francis will be at Square Books, Jr. on Tuesday, September 14 to sign copies of Love Sucks at 5 p.m.

AJ Ashe may have gotten rid of her vampire stalker and her evil ex-teacher, but things are hardly back to normal. For one thing, she still has to maintain a strict look-but-don't-touch policy with Ryan, her hot ex-boyfriend-turned-stepbrother. For another, she has to learn to control her vampire superpowers-which means more than a few dates with Lex, mind-reading professional vampire trainer and too-sexy-for-his-own-good bad boy. And as if that's not enough, she happens to be the key to her father's plans to take over the world . . . and he'll stop at nothing to get what he wants. All this and she's still got to plan the prom. Being a teenager is tough, but being a teenage vampire just flat out sucks!

Back to School Bash

Back to School Bash

You've finished your summer reading list, you've gotten all your school supplies, so it means summer is officially over. Right? WRONG! Square Books Junior and the Yoknapatawpha Youth Literacy Council are throwing a back-to-school bash to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year!

Here's what you need to know: The party is at Off Square Books on Friday, August 6th starting at 7pm.

There will be a book drive (benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Oxford) going on at the door so we are encouraging everyone to bring a book (or two!).

Like all good SBJ parties there will be plenty of refreshments and even live entertainment by Oxford's own high school band, The Tape Ghosts!

So put on your dancing shoes, grab a couple books (or some school supplies) to give to a good cause, and put off school starting for one more night!

We'll see you there! And remember, this event is family friendly!
