The Making and Unmaking Mass Incarceration (MUMI) Conference will bring together scholars, activists, policymakers, lawyers, students, and Mississippians to better understand the history of mass incarceration and shape the future of prison abolition. Organized by the Arch Dalrymple III Department of History with support from the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, this national conference is an attempt to reimagine how academic gatherings are convened and carried forward. We hope its spirit of open humanities collaboration across disciplinary, institutional, and regional divides – and between activists and academics - provides a space for those building collective social transformation in the academy and outside it.
