Square Books will celebrate reading, books and local authors by hosting the event READ THIS, BEGINNINGS & ENDS at MY BOOKSTORE on November 12. The event features the three books listed below and will be attended by Oxford writers as well as other literary figures in the community.
READ THIS is a book that offers lists of favorites that have flown
under the radar, but off of bookstore shelves. First published on Hans
Weyandt's blog for Micawber's Books, each list includes a bookseller's
top fifty books, anecdotes, and interviews about the life of being a
bookseller, reader, and engaged citizen. All proceeds will go to
American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFFE). There will be a discussion by Square Books' Owner Richard Howorth, General Manager Lyn
Roberts, and Buyer Cody Morrison who are all featured in the book with lists of
their handpicked favorite books.
BEGINNINGS & ENDS is a collection of the best opening and closing lines from the novels,
short stories, memoirs
and personal essays of contemporary Oxford
writers. Authors featured include Richard Ford, John Grisham, Larry
Brown, Barry Hannah, Willie Morris and Tom Franklin. Editor Ron Borne, along with selected writers featured in the book, will be in attendance to read, answer questions and sign copies.
MY BOOKSTORE collects the essays, stories, odes and words of gratitude and praise
for indie bookstores across the country in 84 pieces written by our most beloved
authors. It's a joyful, industry-wide celebration of our
bricks-and-mortar stores and a clarion call to readers everywhere at a
time
when the value and importance of these stores should be shouted
from the rooftops. Perfectly charming line drawings by Leif Parsons
illustrate each storefront and other distinguishing features of the
shops. Jack Pendarvis, who writes about his favorite bookstore, Square Books, will be in attendance to answer questions, make people laugh and sign copies.
